SARAH ROBERTSON

Director & Visiting Teacher
Dip ece & BA ece

Kia ora, Hi my name is Sarah Robertson and ever since I was a child I had wanted to be a teacher. As a child I used to ‘teach’ my three younger brothers, friends and teddies, whether they wanted to play or not! Since then I married and became a mother to three wonderful children and a foster parent to an awesome now 19-year-old. With having two teenagers 18 and 15 and a 8 year old, still at home life is pretty busy as you can imagine.

It was at play centre with my first child that my love of teaching was reborn. I undertook some of my play centre training before having more children. I had tried other jobs, but teaching kept calling me back, I also cared for friend’s children. But it wasn’t until the birth of my third child, that I seriously began to think about making a career out of teaching. I gained my diploma and a year later my four – year teaching degree in Early Childhood Education while also working in a centre. I found being able to work while studying provided me with the chance to put into practice what I was learning at the time.

Children have a sense of wonder, enthusiasm and excitement when they look at the world; I myself have found it contagious. It’s things like this that makes my job so enjoyable. I am lucky enough to work beside a fantastic bunch of educators who each offer so many different things to the families whose children are in their care. Each educator has different experiences, teaching styles, strengths and brings something different to our service.
